Ice Exploration Activity
Rescue Frozen Toys
Materials: bowl, water, variety of small plastic toys, bin, child-friendly shovels and kitchen tools, spray bottles (optional)

Your child will be thrilled to rescue toys while they explore the properties of ice!
First, add small plastic toys to a bowl and cover them with a layer of water. Put the bowl in the freezer.
When that layer is frozen, add more toys and another layer of water. Put the bowl in the freezer once again to freeze this second layer.
When the ice block is frozen, remove it from the bowl (running warm water over the bowl might help free the block). You can put the ice block in a bin, sink, or bathtub.
Now your child can try and free their toys from the ice. They can use spray bottles or a turkey baster filled with warm (not hot) water, kitchen tools (not sharp), or toy shovels.
For a little or no-prep variation on ice exploration, have your child simply try to melt and break apart a bin of ice cubes with the same tools mentioned above.

Cuando el bloque de hielo esté congelado, sácalo del recipiente (echar agua templada sobre el cuenco podría ayudar a liberar el bloque). Puedes poner el bloque de hielo en otro recipiente, el lavamanos o la bañera.
Ahora, tu niño puede tratar de liberar los juguetes del hielo. Puede tratar de sacar los juguetes con agua templada (no caliente) con una botella de espray o un cuentagotas de cocina, con utensilios de cocina (que no sean afilados) o con palas de juguete.
Para una variante que no requiera preparación, puedes hacer que tu niño trate de derretir y romper cubos de hielo dentro de un recipiente con los mismos instrumentos mencionados anteriormente.
