Movement Activity
Lily Pad Hop
Materials: chalk or painter’s tape
Materials: chalk or painter’s tape
Hop, hop, hooray! This fun movement activity helps your child practice balance and gross motor skills.
To prepare, make “lily pads” by drawing circles on the pavement. Space out the circles so your child can get from one to the next with a hop. If you cannot use chalk outside, you can use painter’s tape on carpet inside.
Tell your child that frogs use the leaves of water lilies, called lily pads, to get around a pond. They hop from one lily pad to the next! Then say that in this game, they will pretend to be frogs and hop around a “pond.” Have them stand behind the first lily pad and jump from one to the next. They can even squat jump like frogs!
You can also use this activity to help your child practice letter or number order. Simply draw numbers or letters in the “lily pads,” and tell your child to follow the correct order.
