Make Tortillas
Materials: 2 cups flour, ½ teaspoon salt, 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, ¾ cup warm water, large mixing bowl, spoon, rolling pin, skillet
Materials: 2 cups flour, ½ teaspoon salt, 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, ¾ cup warm water, large mixing bowl, spoon, rolling pin, skillet
Your child will get sensory pleasure and satisfaction in helping make homemade tortillas. Add a little cheese, beans, or avocado, and you have lunch!
Mix the flour and salt in the mixing bowl. Let your child stir.
Then pour in the oil and water. Let your child stir some more!
Dump the dough onto a floured surface.
Dust your hands with flour and knead the dough. Add more flour if the dough is sticky, or more water if it’s too dry. Your child can help.
Divide the dough into eight portions and roll each into a ball. Let your child roll some.
Flatten each ball with your hands, then roll out each into a thin tortilla with a rolling pin. (Now it’s time to cook the tortillas. You can put the tortillas aside and cook them later if you’d like.)
Warm the skillet on the stove. Add a small amount of cooking spray or oil and cook each tortilla over medium heat until lightly browned.
After a minute, flip the tortilla and cook the other side.
Enjoy!

Haz tortillas

¡Buen provecho!
